The Voice inside us all.

A poem about our inner voice and how it can heal.

For the longest time, I allowed myself to listen to the negative,  unloving, deceitful voice inside myself; each day, I would awake, and I would move forward with my day,  but in my mind, I was still be held back.  I didn’t see the beauty in my life and the uniqueness in myself; I only saw the darkness surrounding me and the roadblocks up ahead.

When I chose to see my life positively and listen to my positive inner voice,  my life and my perception of it began to change.  I saw things in a new light,  and the roadblocks were now wide open roads for me to travel on and move forward freely with my life.

The voice you choose to listen to can save your life; the voice you choose can change your life.
The voices you choose can cause you harm, make you feel sad, or give you new hope, even during those times when you feel at the end of your rope.
The words you speak to yourself will cause you to feel down or will allow you to keep your chin up when life feels unsound. These words can sting, or they can sing, but most importantly, they can heal.
So, If you continue to look up, even when you’re down, your life will start to turn right around. It may not happen fast, it may take some time, but the voices you choose will make you begin to feel just fine.
Each new day will bring something different, so allow yourself to speak, feel and let go, allowing you the room you need to listen to the voices that will help you grow.
Life can be either messy or sublime, but when you choose to talk to yourself with the right voices, life will seem less complicated, and in the end, reassure you that life is not terrible all the time.

It’s Okay Not To Be OK

Some days the words just don’t come out, and that’s okay. It is usually on those days when I have had multiple seizures, but it is also on those days when I feel too drained by the ups and downs of life to express how I think in words; this is when I pick up my pen and write. I write about not necessarily my worries, fears, or anxieties, but I write about my blessings. I write about all the things that life has provided me with and continues to offer me.

I look up instead of looking down and focus on how good my life really is. I know that life is not going to be easy, and I have a choice to either make it harder on myself or make it easier by not choosing to dwell on the negative circumstances put in my way. By choosing not to overthink my circumstances and accept them, I am allowing myself to live a happier, more grateful life.

We all have the ability to do this; we have to allow ourselves to focus on what’s right in our lives. Your life will not be perfect, and there will be days that you just want to stay silent, and that’s okay; but allow yourself to realize your blessings, allow yourself the time to rest, and bring yourself peace. Focus on healing and getting your body and mind back in order.

Stay strong, remain positive, and continue to embrace your beautiful, messy life.

A Glass Half Full

I am an optimist; I have spent too much of my life being a pessimist. I looked at the glass half empty instead of half full, and I focused on the bad instead of the good, and I thought that my life was worse than anyone else when in reality, many others have it so much worse.

As I began to look at my life and realize just how good it really is compared to others around me, I started to open up to the good around me. Yes, my life isn’t perfect; yes, I have three neurological disorders that include epilepsy, which gets in my way from time to time; but things could always be worse, and I could still choose to think differently about it all, but I don’t. Life’s too short to take anything for granted.

I let myself suffer for too long, which only led to deep heartache, sadness, and almost death. When I approached that final moment, and I was ready to end my life, I didn’t realize who else I would be hurting; I didn’t think of anyone else but myself. Looking back on that day, I am thankful that I didn’t follow through on what I had planned for myself because life had more important things set in place for me.

I am an optimist, and I don’t take my life for granted. I choose to be grateful each day, and I don’t complain about the things that I cannot change. I focus on the good in my life, and I embrace my mess. I understand that life is not perfect, and neither am I. I have my days when I feel angry, and when I feel sad and downright miserable along with every other emotion, I don’t hold onto them. I let myself feel them now, sit with them, and let them go.

Life is too short to spend it being angry, sad, miserable, and frustrated at the world all the time. It is time to feel good, and I will. Will you too?

The Promises We Keep

It’s a brand new day and a brand new week; three more days until the end of the new year, and despite all that has happened throughout these past ten months, I am thankful!

I am thankful for life; even though it may seem challenging, I know that I am tougher, and I continue to move forward. Know how tough you are.

I am grateful for love, love is a fantastic feeling, and it continues to push me forward; open yourself up to it.

I choose love over hate, trust over fear, and happiness over sadness. My life is not perfect, but I know that nothing in life is, and I promise to live each day to the fullest.

I promise today to be strong when I am weak and let my strength push me towards a new tomorrow. I promise to focus on positive feelings because I know that positive emotions are always better than negative ones. I promise to continue to believe that life will be better than today because nothing in this life is permanent.

As we go into these last three days, I want to thank all of you for following me and for inspiring me with your writing; I appreciate you all. And as you go into your last three days, what promises will you make to yourself so that you can create the future that you want for yourself?

Don’t take this life for granted.

I have contemplated the thought of suicide quite a bit throughout my life, and I have tried to end it on numerous accounts, with my last attempt being in September of 2012. Over these past seven years, I have realized that no matter how difficult this life might get, suicide is not the answer.

Life is more beautiful than death, and I am grateful for this life, regardless of how much it seems to get me down sometimes. I am thankful for the tough times; they have made me stronger, and I am grateful for the strength that I have to get through those tough times.

AND I WON’T TAKE IT FOR GRANTED

Each new day I am alive is a gift, and I promise myself today not to take this gift for granted. I woke up this morning, and I have air in my lungs, and I have two eyes to see and two ears that allow me to hear. I will choose today to allow myself to be grateful and promise myself not to take this day for granted.

My brain and my body sometimes do not cooperate; I might have a seizure that causes me to stiffen up, but I will not take it for granted. My brain still works, and my body even moves, and I am thankful.

Life is a mess, but it is beautiful; embrace it. When you wake up at 5 AM, and your body aches, and you wipe the sleepers out of your eyes, and you feel the air in your lungs; before you complain about your aching back, how tired you are, or that it’s too early. Be Thankful that you have aches and pains and air in your lungs.

The more we promise ourselves to be thankful for the little things in our lives, the more those little things become big things, and the more we allow those things to create a better feeling inside our hearts and minds.

Be thankful, choose hope, and promise yourself every day to embrace life.

Choose To Be Awesome

Have you ever just woken up and said to yourself, “This day is going to be AMAZING!” to only run into one problem after another problem, after another, and realize that your AWESOME day turned out to be not so AWESOME at all, Me too.

I wake up in the morning, and I feel fantastic thinking that I will have an amazing day, and there are those days that I do. But then there are those days that I wake up, and I may have had a seizure through the night, and I feel a bit groggy and stiff in the morning. I open my eyes, and even though I might not want to embrace the day and make it amazing, I do anyway.

Today, and everyday.

I get out of bed, stretch my arms up high, and begin to move my body. I take a deep breath in and a deep breath out, and I say thank you for the new day that I have before me. I exercise, shower, plan my day out and make an effort to have the most AMAZING day possible.

As the day progresses, I might have another seizure, or I might not, and if I do, I will still choose to make my day as awesome as possible. I will stay thankful for the day and embrace the beautiful mess that life has given me.

When you find yourself waking up expecting to have an AMAZING day, but then life rears its head and pulls a fast one on you, don’t let it stop you from having an awesome day. Please open your eyes, and realize that you have been given this day to make it only as AMAZING as you have the power to make it. Choose to make it as Awesome as possible by embracing your beautiful mess and being grateful for all of it.

I’M GOING TO MAKE IT.

I am feeling good today, yesterday was not so good, but today is better. I will continue to stay encouraged through this beautiful mess and not get discouraged.

I took a break from much of anything yesterday, mostly because I couldn’t think through the pain that I was experiencing. I had a kidney stone working its way through me, and I was too tired and also in pain to do anything.

I choose to feel encouraged

But I am not complaining. Today is a new day, and while although yesterday I couldn’t do much, I am not going to get discouraged. I am going to continue to move forward and appreciate how far I’ve come. I feel a bit better today, not perfect, but better, and I will continue to embrace my challenges and choose to allow them to make me into a stronger person.

As you move forward through today and the rest of this week, don’t get discouraged by a setback. Stay encouraged, and continue to move forward. If you feel that you can’t do something, step back for a minute, and allow yourself a moment to breathe and realize that life is never perfect, and nothing in life is ever permanent either.

Continue to stay grateful, and if you encounter a setback through this week, remember that a setback is a set up for a comeback, and when you feel yourself falling back, pick yourself up and fall forward. Keep on keeping on.

It feels good to feel good

It Feels Good to be Alive today. Although I may have aches and pains and may feel sick at times, it feels good to be alive today. I may complain about how things are in my life, and my work situation might not be so ideal at the moment, but it feels good to be alive today.

My advice for everyone today is to enjoy this life and make it feel good; however, that may be for you. You only get one chance, so choose it well, and if some days seem like Hell, don’t despair; a day is just a day; it’s not your entire life; tomorrow is around the corner. Continue to move forward with a smile.

I realize that my past is gone, and right now is the only moment I have to think about, and right now, my life feels good. I acknowledge that my life is not perfect; it is, in fact, nowhere near it. It has bumps, and it has roadblocks, and I get angry and upset and frustrated, but my life feels good.

My life will continue to have ups and continue to have downs, and it will never be perfect, so I will promise myself today to embrace it anyway.

Feeling good just feels good

Each waking moment is a new chance to choose how to live my life, and I will choose to live it with hope. I will choose to feel good, even though sometimes life may not feel so good, but today is different today, and today life feels good.

Love the life you live

A poem about embracing your mess

Photo by Patrick Tomasso on Unsplash

You’re alive today, isn’t it grand? You’re ALIVE today, give yourself a big hand. There were so many people who weren’t given a chance, to wake up with a smile on their face and say I have one more chance.

You’re ALIVE today, so allow yourself to smile, to feel the air in your lungs, to walk that extra mile.

Feel the wind on your face, listen to the birds chirping too, smell the sweet air around you touch the people you love; hold them near, use all your senses and be happy you are here.

You were given this chance, don’t take it for granted, embrace the beautiful mess that is yours, and be grateful for it all, there are so many people who didn’t wake up to fall. Falling is a part of life, we can’t get away without stumbling once or twice, but think of what a privilege it is to do so, isn’t it nice?

Choose to dance even if you can’t, feel the rhythm of life move you, and embrace the energy running right through you. There are so many out there that can’t walk and are wishing they could, so feel the rhythm, and be happy that you can move at all even if it’s tough for you.

Allow yourself to let go, and be who you are. Be silly, be stupid, be weird, and laugh at the mess that you’re, there are so many who weren’t given that chance today, consider yourself blessed, even if at times you may feel stressed.

Life can seem tough at times, but when you’re grateful you will see, that life is a privilege not given to everyone, and how beautiful it can be.

I believe in you. Believe in yourself too.

When you believe in yourself there is nothing you can’t do, when you believe in yourself you will develop the power to pull through. The world becomes larger, and clearer each day, and you start to develop the courage that you need to get you through even the darkest day.

Your life may seem tough at times, and that’s okay, continue to believe in yourself and your abilities anyway. The challenges you face may seem so much harder, but when you believe in yourself, you will be able to handle them much smarter.

So believe in yourself, and know that I believe in you too, know that there is someone out there who is thinking of you. There are people out there who want you to succeed and do your best, there are people out there who believe in you, and want you to pass the test.

This test of yours is life, and you can get through, just by believing in yourself and all that you can do.
